BAC Estimates & AI Drink Recognition
Roam provides Blood Alcohol Content (BAC) estimates and AI-powered drink recognition as informational tools only. They are designed to promote awareness, not to provide medical, legal, or safety guidance.
AI Drink Recognition
The App uses artificial intelligence (Google Gemini) to identify drinks from photos. This feature:
- May misidentify drinks — the AI may incorrectly classify a drink's type, volume, or alcohol content
- May overestimate or underestimate the alcohol content of a drink
- Cannot detect drink strength variations, added shots, mixed proportions, or non-standard servings
- Is not a laboratory analysis — it provides an approximation based on visual recognition only
- Should always be verified — you should review and correct the AI's suggestions before confirming a drink log
We make no guarantees about the accuracy, completeness, or reliability of AI drink recognition results. If in doubt, log your drink manually with details from the menu, label, or bar staff.
BAC Estimates
BAC values displayed in the App are calculated using the Widmark formula with conservative assumptions and a built-in safety bias. These estimates:
- Are not accurate for all individuals — actual BAC depends on many factors the model cannot account for, including food intake, hydration, medication, fatigue, metabolism, liver function, body composition, and individual physiology
- May significantly differ from your actual BAC as measured by a breathalyser or blood test
- Are not medically or legally valid — they cannot be used as evidence of sobriety or intoxication
- Tend toward caution but are still only estimates and should not be relied upon for any safety-critical decision
Do Not Drive
You should NEVER use BAC estimates or AI drink recognition results from this App to determine whether you are fit to drive, operate machinery, or engage in any activity requiring sobriety.
Even if the App displays a BAC of 0.00, this does not mean you are sober or safe to drive. Alcohol affects judgement, coordination, and reaction time at levels below those detectable by mathematical models.
If you have consumed any alcohol:
- Arrange a taxi, rideshare, or designated driver
- Use public transport
- Wait until you are certain you are fully sober
No app can tell you whether you are safe to drive. Only you can make that decision — and if there is any doubt, the answer is always no.
Limitation of Liability
To the maximum extent permitted by law, Roam accepts no liability for any injury, death, legal consequences, property damage, fines, loss of licence, or any other damages arising from:
- Reliance on BAC estimates provided by the App
- Reliance on AI drink recognition results
- Decisions to drive or operate machinery after consuming alcohol
- Inaccuracies in drink identification or BAC calculations
You use these features entirely at your own risk and accept full responsibility for your actions.
Seek Professional Help
